Kia Ora! Welcome to my blog. I write about my experience working as a Physician Assistant in New Zealand. I began my career as a PA in the United States, where I practiced for 15 years. For years, I longed to live abroad, but found it difficult to find work — not many countries recognize the PA profession. But in the summer of 2019, I happened upon the New Zealand PA Facebook page. After messaging the admin, I was surprised to receive a posting about a new PA job opening! Within six months, I had uprooted my entire family and began work at a clinic in the small town of Kaitaia.
Leaving everything you know professionally and culturally is both exhilarating and terrifying. My blog is about my experience living and working in New Zealand. It’s intended to help other PAs know what to expect and how to make a smooth transition. I document the good and the bad. Along the way, I share my family’s experiences, the logistics of moving, and what it’s like practicing medicine in New Zealand as a PA. Although intended for PAs, the information and advice can apply to anyone looking to work abroad. Please contact me with any questions or comments.
